Los Angeles, CA, October 22, 2012 – Par Avion Meetings & Conventions has been the subject of a live case study at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management. Through their E2B (Education to Business) program, the Graziadio School has connected MBA students with Par Avion executives to identify the strategic issues and opportunities confronting the organization.
Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Top 10 College Courses That Will Pay Off At Work, the E2B program is designed with the dual purpose of:
- Providing students the opportunity to apply their MBA classroom instruction to real-world business challenges
- Delivering companies additional intellectual resources who will research, analyze and provide insightful recommendations to improve the business
“We find this kind of experiential learning highly effective for both our students and the companies involved in the live case study,” said Lynda Palmer, Marketing Professor and E2B Program Case Development Manager for the Graziadio School. “Par Avion has been an exceptional partner and exciting to work with. They are extremely engaging and responsive which allows everyone to get the most out of the experience.”
Par Avion’s President and CEO Toby Brenner and Vice President of Sales and Marketing JoAnn Worthington are both Pepperdine alumnae and first learned about the E2B program though connections with their alma mater. Their goal is to develop an even stronger brand identity for Par Avion and further penetrate the convention housing market.
Since its inception ten years ago, the E2B program has studied more than 300 companies from a wide range of industries. They have been everything from small, sole proprietorships to Fortune 500 corporate behemoths like Starbucks, Sony and Disney. Prior to official selection, a faculty expert works closely with the business to ensure that they meet the criteria and clearly define the scope of the project.
The class is then divided into teams of four to five students, each responsible for thoroughly researching the company, its industry and its competitors and providing innovative solutions to their business challenges. Two presentations are given directly to the company during the course of the trimester, one at midway point and one at the end.
Par Avion has already been presented with the initial research findings and is eagerly awaiting the final recommendations from each of the five teams.
“I was more than impressed with the work the students did in the first analysis and I can’t wait to hear all of the fresh perspectives on how best to make our unique business more successful,” said Brenner.
“We truly appreciate Toby and JoAnn for giving back to the school by offering their company as a case study,” said Palmer. “Hearing about complex business concepts in class is only part of the learning experience. Putting this knowledge to work through practical, actionable solutions to real business challenges…that’s where the real education takes place.”
